Going against the flow here but I think most guys are well aware of how some people work in the industry. SOME not everyone. There are always options and different ways to do things. If you are not happy with a situation just move on, choose to miss an opportunity, reject an offer, change your agency or booker etc. I'm not saying it's right for anyone to be treated that way but I'm sure if it was a woman doing something similar, they'd just fuck her and move on. There's a reason why Kit gets soo many jobs. It's not because he's super talented in front of the camera.

Not that what Bruce or any photographer is ok but a lot of the time, there is a quid pro quo that happens in these situations and it doesn't always involve sexual contact. There are obviously egregious abuse of power like with Terry but part of the reason why Bruce, for the most part, has evaded such rumors unlike Terry is because he tends to treat the models with some level of respect but he definitely want them naked in front of the camera and for the most part, that's as far as it gets with Bruce. It's really a sad state of affairs. Having been both a model agent and a client (working at a men's magazine)... What Boyce says is not a surprise, we all knew about this behavior and often heard agents instructing models to do "everything Bruce asks them to do" as he could end their career, and often he did. I remember a guy, 19 or so, that refused to get naked during a test shoot for a possible job with Bruce, being sent back home (rule is you get naked a frolic around while he shoots you) and complaints were made to the agency, the boy was dropped and never worked again.
There are many doing this... A famous couple of designers i won't name, they made disappear many successful models for refusing to date them, or for "breaking up with them" or even for breaking up with one of their BFFs... a Croatian model had his option for the campaign cancelled after breaking up with one of the designer's bff (a girl).
It's common practice... and Bruce at least is someone that could make or break your career, this is done even by slimy no-ones that the most prestigious thing they shot is a test shoot.
And about Kanner... well... he has a name in the business for pushing guys around... i remember one of our guys that left Soul said once "It's refreshing not to be sent to castings were i need to strip every single time and rub myself with oil with the justification of "it's a great opportunity"... I remember he sent us once polaroids of a model and made a remark to notice how big is dick was. Or he would send a naked shot of a model to convince us to book him.

Well it's awful because these male models were used and manipulated by their agents "so called protectors" and Bruce. The fear of retribution is real. That is why there hasn't been anyone else coming forward.

Yes, his infamous "breathing exercise", that EVERYONE in the industry knows about, is inexcusable and I suspect, unless he's lost his mind, has stopped. Good.

HOWEVER.......

Too many people are getting high and mighty about him wanting to shoot the guys nude, the very same guys who are begging for nude shots of models to be posted here - even if they're acquired by fraudulent means.

It is no secret that Bruce shoots nudes so it is perfectly reasonable that he would shoot nudes at a test for a couple of reasons.

As a photographer, you want to see if someone is comfortable being nude. If the guy is totally uptight and balks at it you know not to book him for a shoot that requires him to be walking around with his dick out.

Also, have you ever noticed that not one of the guys Bruce has shot frontal has an ugly cock? For instance, look through Bear Pond, can you find one single cock that isn't beautifully shaped? There isn't. If you're shooting guys frontally, an ugly dick ruins the shot because everyone's attention goes straight to it and the shot becomes all about how ugly the guy's cock is. The same thing goes for women's tits. Major photographers don't shoot ugly tits - unless it's some super famous model and people just want to see her tits regardless.

I'm sure Bruce wants to see the guys nude (wouldn't YOU?) but if you're a photographer who's famous for shooting nude men it is perfectly reasonable that you should be expected to drop trou. If you're not comfortable with that, fine, but do your fucking homework about the photographer you're going to beforehand and if it's not something you're comfortable with then don't go. Nobody's holding a gun to your head.

If you're old enough to go to war, you're old enough to go to a test and leave if you're not comfortable. Don't come back years later whining about how traumatized you were, how it ruined your life, how blah blah blah. You stayed because you thought you might get something from it. You didn't. It looks like Bruce is going to survive this because other guys haven't come forward. I think the reason is that no one wants their friends to know they let an old fat guy feel them up. There's nothing to be gained from that social embarrassment.

Sadly, this is one of the few spaces where Mr. Weber and his enablers can be discussed, seeing that most media will not touch this story outside of the initial Post article.

Bruce is already damaged. Young models will think twice before working with him. It's hard to look at a Bruce Weber post on social media without wondering what the model had to do in order to secure the job, or the range of "pedophile / molester" remarks in the comments section.

Bruce is a stand in for a more pervasive problem - the relationship between gatekeeper agents, photographers and what conditions constitute the exploitation of young men in the fashion industry. Some men understand the landscape and know how to use their looks to advance their interests. Obviously this places them in questionable situations, especially when their is no objective standard for success. What advantage does one model have over the other? It's all pretty subjective... And in many cases leads to young men sending explicit photos of themselves to attract the interest and attention of individuals who, as they've been told, can advance their career.

I don't consider this issue black and white. We can all agree the breathing exercise is wrong. However is also important to acknowledge there are cadre of young models who have been conditioned into thinking they only way they will work is to play dumb and sell themselves.

It's a sad reality. Unless you come from a privileged family, most models are barely able to make rent by the end of the month. So there is a real power dynamic at play, when you don't make much steady income, face multiple rejections, and an agent comes along and tells you " Nail this - do everything Bruce tells you". Chances are you're going to do it and feel shitty after.

There's also a clear difference in receiving a call sheet that calls for nudity w/ a negotiated pay rate versus walking into a test shoot and being told to disrobe. Only to be stunned when next thing you know a photographer is rubbing you down with old and playing with your dick.

Across the board if you're a photographer and want to shoot nude art, pay your subjects and sign a contact. . If you can't afford it, you've got no business shooting. There ought to be more transparency in these processes not less.

When I arrived at the Little Bear studios, I was handed the hard copies of the shoot by one of his assistants, I still have them to this day, as shown on this picture. As you see, I was put in the shot with a very young girl and I was extremely uncomfortable. When I look at that shot today I see how he managed to capture that feeling.

Then, I was told I could take the elevator up to Bruce's apartment on the floor above where his assistants and golden retrievers were not running around, Bruce was waiting for me. I arrive at his floor above the Little Bear studio, where he greeted me friendly and we sat down in the couch for a "chat". We small talked a bit before he started asking questions like what do you want from this world, how far do you wanna go? Etc. He told me I reminded him of a young Brad Pitt. He then went on to say he first shot Brad Pitt in Europe for Voge in the 90's and went on to eloborate on that experience, how Brad had been almost desperately willing to "please everybody in the room" as he said. He went on to suggest that I had to adapt a similar way of thinking if I were to get anywhere in show business.

By that point I was starting to get uncomfortable, I didn't agree with him, that this was what it takes, that I have to please everybody in the room to get to work in this business. But I thought maybe he just meant that I had to be nice to people, which I am, so I just said sure Bruce. You're right Bruce. Thank you for giving me advice. I said this to end on a good foot and hopefully be able to leave.

Then he went on to ask me to shoot. I was relieved because the conversation was making me uncomfortable, and I thought to myself, just get the shoot over with quick, leave on a good foot, stay in "consideration for future projects"(Weber shoots for Ralph Lauren, Vmag,LouieV and A&F on a regular). But this time the shoot lasted longer than 50 polaroids like the year before. This time, after shooting shirtless he also wanted to shoot me in just my underwear. Shooting with Bruce is very intense and requires to be in the moment and mindfulness to stay in control, which I at the time did not possess.He shoots very quickly, and all you hear is the..

..sound of the Polaroid camera going non stop, along with his instructions. "Touch yourself" "How do you feel" "Do you feel the energy" "where's the energy?" "Touch yourself there" "how do you feel?".. it was a very intimidating feeling, but I lied and said "I feel good" not wanting to upset Americas go to photographer number one. He kept asking more and more aggressive "how do you feel" and "touch yourself" by then I had only touched my face and chest, when he suddenly grabbed my right wrist with his left hand, and forced it down my underwear.

By now I was under complete control, my mind "froze", I couldn't think straight, petrified that any wrong move would upset the man. He kept shooting while moving my arm up and down, to stimulate my genitals and make me aroused. He kept asking more and more forcefully "how do you feel" while also shooting and making these arm movements. I was terrified. I now started looking for something to say that would make him happy, as "I feel good Bruce" didn't cut it. So I said "I feel sexy". Sexy was the last thing I felt. I felt embarassed, used, abused. But of course I couldn't say that. But I had said what he wanted to hear and he stopped.

By then it had gone on for about 10 minutes, which seemed like an eternity and there were at least 400 polaroids all over the floor. He let go of my wrist. He smiled. "Do you get it now?" I said "yes Bruce" "thank you for the experience" "I learned so much". Looking back, I remember defending his actions in my mind as to sort of brush the abuse away as "a learning experience" it sounded much better than being abused, and by the time I had gotten my clothes back on and walked over to his elevator, in my mind, I had already passed the situation off as "normal" "a learning experience" as well as "now I bet he will book me for Ralph Lauren and all his clients, he seems to like me a lot and I must have made him happy by doing everything he demanded off me". Before I went in the elevator, he came up to me to say bye, I gave him a hug. Then, he forced a quick kiss on my mouth as a farewell or see you soon. Again, the feeling of being wronged came over me, but by the time I was out of the elevator..

..I had already justified the kiss as a "sign of love", I told myself he just cared about me, besides, just moments before I had already justified being sexually abused, what was an innocent kiss to that? I sent Bruce's assistant an email that same day, telling them how "goood" as I wrote, the experience had been, and thanked them for keeping me like they said "in consideration for future projects". I was messed up.

I had justified everything that had happened in the matter of seconds and never thought of it again as something wrong until a few years later, when it hit me, I had been taken advantage of. Not only that, what I thought now was a bright future with magazine covers and endless campaigns turned out to be the exact opposite. I never heard from Bruce after that, even though I tried calling and sending emails. I even wrote him a letter to try and get in touch with him again. No replies. Straight to voicemail. I was confused.

I thought maybe he was upset at me because I had a falling out with one of his favorite models at the time. Not until 4 days ago, when I discovered that @jasonmboyce had gone pupilc with a similar experience, that all came back. Here I walked around for seven years thinking Bruce just favored his friend over me as a loyalty thing, while all along he has been name shaming me and ridiculed my reputation to the point where nobody wants to touch me in the fashion industry. Because I won't book jobs. Because every casting I went to since, they looked at me as "difficult to work with".

I've heard rumors about this ever since but always brushed them off as negative thoughts and kept telling myself to stay positive, focus on presenting myself better next casting. But 7 years of countless rejection does something to you. Even only one year after I stopped booking jobs as a result of my second visit to the Little Bear studio Inc, I decided to move to LA and try to break into acting. What I realize now is the two professions modeling and acting is intertwined.

So...no one's going to mention anything about a particular one-letter-named magazine that forces its models to have sex with someone on the editorial team before their faces/bodies get to be in their magazine?

I’ll never forget pacing on my patio back in Memphis, TN as I talked to him on the phone. He detailed my future trip to Miami with all the bells and whistles; it’s safe to say, at 20 years old, I thought I’d made it

Located on his sprawling private compound, this was no small shoot. It was a handful of guys from all over the country, but none the less, we were all in the same boat. As we waited for the crew to setup, one by one we were called upstairs into a private bedroom with a balcony overlooking the ocean. I’ll never forget how cool and collected I wanted to be as my name was called. In reality, I was equally nervous and excited for my opportunity. Once in the room, Bruce asked me to shut the door behind me and told me to stand against the wall so he could shoot me in the natural light. [I’m not sure if you can imagine what it feels like to be shot by one of the most famed photographers in the world or not but simply put, as my first job, I figured I could only go up from here]. Within seconds, he asked me to take off my clothes and I immediately went from excited to questioning my existence - I’d never been so exposed in my life and to be quite honest, I was shy and unprepared. Regardless, with the weight of the room, I obliged as one can only hope for the best in such a scenario. I mean, this is Bruce Weber and considering his experience, there must be a formula to this madness. Unfortunately, as bright as the room was by an over exposed sun, an eclipse took hold in the form of Bruce’s alternative motives. He put down his camera and stood directly in front of my raw form and proceeded to lead me through his infamous ‘breathing technique’ to calm my nerves; all while making me more nervous and afraid. He told me to place my hand on my chest and breath in and out as I feel my heart beat. Soon, this turned to him placing my hand on his chest and his hand on mine, telling me to breath with him as we feel each others heart beat. As we breathed together, he placed his thumb on my mouth which caused me to immediately stop breathing and [slightly] pull away. [It’s a conundrum in that I wanted to escape the situation but I was also paralyzed with fear - at this point, I knew exactly how much of an impact he could have on my career]. This was clearly not something I was interested in and I can only assume he could see it on my face. Thankfully, he backed away, picked up his camera, and began to shoot me in the natural light. Still exposed, I could breath again. After a few short minutes, he told me I could get dressed and head back downstairs to wait for the actual photo shoot. “Ohhh and Chris, send up the next guy.”

Fast forward to a few months later when I was in NYC and signed to a legit agency, VNY. Bruce was in town for the summer and wanted to see me in his offices. My agent sent me along but with one contingency, “if he asks you to take off your clothes, tell him you’re not allowed to.” Once in his beautifully designed office, I was ushered into an elevator which took me to his private quarters. Inside, we cordially sat on his couch where he made enticing promises of lucrative jobs to come. He asked if he could take a few pictures of me and of course I happily obliged until the elephant in the room revealed itself and he asked me to take off my clothes. I politely turned down his offer thanks to the protection of my agent. Ohhh how quickly the conversation turned from future modeling prospects to acting. “Chris, you should pursue a career in acting. You have the look and charisma but unfortunately, you’re not as tall as a lot of the other models.”

If the guys knew that there was going to be nudity on a test shoot, then they could have made a call whether to participate or not.

As the OP, I can't speak for everything that happens on this forum. I don't care for any of it, but this is one of the few spaces that has followed the Weber story. The revelations shared here have been accurate and I appreciate the perspective and analysis offered by those who choose to engage.

Do I think it's right that folks spend their time developing elaborate strategies to bait guys into sending pics and then distributing them who all to see -- absolutely not. But I also don't think it's right for folks in power to abuse that power and trust to take advantage of guys just looking to make a little money and become successful in the fashion industry.

The reason 99.9% of them don't say no is because they want something from the photographer, and that's fame. It's total bullshit for them to come back after the fact and whine about how they froze, or didn't know what to do, or felt pressured, or blah blah fucking blah.

You say that Bruce has "POWER" (as opposed to a lower case "power") and because of that POWER the models are, essentially, trembling in fear before him. Bullshit.

When this occurs, they are given a choice to either say "no" or acquiesce. If they acquiesce, I agree it's out of fear, but it's a fear they won't get something they WANT.

They don't want to be groped by Bruce or Mario or whoever but they go along with it out of the fear that they will lose out on something THEY want, and that thing is fame.

You talk to any of these guys and you never hear them say how they want to make a bunch of money. They always talk about how they want the possible fame that comes with being successful, and they see Bruce as a means to an end.

Once again, NO, Bruce should NOT be doing this. It's unprofessional, creepy, and wrong. But the way for it to stop is for the guys to say "no" and they're not because they're there to get something and they're afraid they won't get it if they say "no". That's not weakness, it's calculation.

One could say Bruce is manipulating their desire for fame and they'd be right. However, in the model's mind, whether he processes it this way or not, he's manipulating Bruce by giving up something Bruce wants in exchange for something they want.

As I said earlier, if this were some old creeper in a bathroom they would punch the guy out because they'd have nothing to lose. The creeper has nothing they want. Bruce does, so they pull it out.

I've yet to hear that Bruce ever held a gun to any of these guys' heads, so it's bullshit for them to be whining years later about how awful the experience was and how used they felt when they were willing participants in an exchange of desires.

So yes, Bruce has power but so do they. So much so that Bruce will risk getting punched in the face to get what they have.

This has been going on since time immemorial and will continue long after Bruce. It doesn't make it right but let's be grown-ups about it and not take to our fainting couches when we learn of something like this happening.

I think it's a stretch to say most of these guys want fame. Most models have settled on the fact that men are paid far less than women, and the chances that men will become famous from modeling is very low.

Most male models are simply happy to receive a small $500-2,500 job. So that they can say they've accomplished something. Unless you're privileged and have parents that can support you while modeling, many of these guys are supporting themselves. Agencies will tell guys upfront there is no guarantee of employment by signing. For the guy just struggling to get by working a catering job, and maybe finding odd jobs elsewhere it's very hard to "make it" modeling.

These guys put a lot of trust in their agents and agencies and often times that is misguided. There are agents who prey on good looking guys asking for explicit photos... agents sending models on shoots with the likes of Lally and Rick Day -- not to improve their models books -- but because they want to see their models in provocative poses with no compensation.

Bruce and Testino are just the extreme versions of behavior that exists throughout the industry. These are successful photographers who happened to get caught.

How will all this end? I'm not sure. Let's remember that Brian Hilburn is still running a modeling agency after he convinced Ben Bowers to jerk off for him...

Those two models are nobodies who wouldn’t have made it without sexual favors anyway. I always wonder why those twenty-something, athletic models never punched that old fat faggot if they felt victimized by him.

So we've clearly established Mr. Weber's pattern of behavior and we've seen responses from Conde Nast, and a few other companies pledging not to work with both Weber and Testino...

The modeling agencies themselves have been silent on the issue... There have been any press statements or social media posts claiming how they plan on protecting their models from sexual assault.

Based on some of the comments here and a few other blogs, we know agencies and agents knowingly participate in creating situations from photographers to abuse and assault models.

Can we begin to speak their names in hopes of broadening this conversation?

There are a number of agents who have gotten their models nude to "prep them" for photoshoots with Weber. Look at the controversy with Ben Bowers and Brian Hilburn... That man still runs an agency and i've heard rumors he gets his guys naked too.

What's sad is these models move to NYC and LA and are promised they'll make money and be successful. None of them thought that they'd have to compromise themselves.
